How to prevent Windows Defender updates in Windows 7

Windows Defender is a useful security tool developed by Microsoft, and is included with its Windows 7 operating system . When activated, Defender protects the system against spyware, viruses and other malicious programs by eliminating detected threats and trying to prevent computer access to those elements. Even though the utility is automatically configured to check if there are updates and install them as soon as they are available, you can deactivate this behavior and choose to manage the update process manually.

You will need to:
  • A computer.
  • The Windows 7 operating system.
Steps to follow:

one

Go to the "Start" button and, in the menu search box, type "Defender" (without the quotes).

two

Click on "Windows Defender", which appears at the top of the search results list. Wait until the software opens, it will take a few minutes.

3

Select "Tools", located at the top of the Windows Defender screen and click on the "Options" link.

4

Go to the "Automatic search" option on the left side of the options screen and uncheck the box "Search for updated definitions before scanning".

5

To finish, click on "Save".

Tips
  • Keep in mind that, depending on the configuration of the system, it may be necessary to confirm the choice or provide the administrator username and password before Windows can approve the change.
