How to format a protected disk

The disks can be configured to be write-protected to protect the information . If you have forgotten your password on the disk and you want to clean it, work on the protection using the Windows registry. The Windows Registry records all the protections on the disks and you can also disable them for editing and formatting .

Steps to follow:

Restart your computer and hold down the "F8" key. This will take you to "Windows Advanced Boot Options ". Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate to "Safe Mode" and then press the "Enter" button.

Click on the "Start" button and then click on the "Search" bar in the menu. Type "regedit" in the "Search" box and press the "Enter" button.

Follow this path in the registry from the icons on the left side of the window that appears: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control StorageDevicePolicies".

Click on the "WriteProtect" key in the "StorageDevicePolicies" section. Change the value to "0" in "WriteProtect". Click on the "OK" button to save it, and then restart the computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive of the computer or a USB port.

Select the "PC" option and click on the disk now without protection. Click on "Manage" in the menu and click on "Disk Management" in the menu. Click on the unprotected disk and choose the "Format" option. Click on the "OK" button and then select the "OK" button again. Wait for the system to notify you when the formatting process is complete, and close the window until the end.
