How to get a monitor not to enter standby mode

Windows 7 includes many functionalities with the intention of reducing electricity consumption and prolonging the total life of your hardware . One way in which it is carried out is through the practice of turning off the monitor or computer after a specified period of inactivity. When the device enters this state, which is called standby mode, since it does not turn off, it is receiving much less power than when it is turned on. You can choose to prevent the monitor from entering standby mode if you wish.

Steps to follow:

Click on "Start, " and then click on "Control Panel."

Click on the "system and security" link.

Click on the green "Energy Options" link.

Click on "Change plan settings" next to your selected energy plan. If you use multiple power plans, you will have to adjust the monitor settings for each of those plans.

Click on the drop-down menu to the right of "Turn off the screen". Then, choose "No".

Click on "Save changes".

  • If you turn off the standby mode for the monitor, but it is often far from your computer, consider setting up a screen saver. Right click on the desktop and select "Personalize." Afterwards, click on "Screen Saver" in the lower right corner of the window to specify the settings.
