How to bridge the car's battery with cables

The jumper cables are used to start a car with a dead battery. The jumper cables are attached to the damaged battery and to a fully charged battery in another car. This must be done correctly and in the correct order to avoid sparks or discharges. It is also important to disconnect the jumper cables in the correct order. You will need to:
  • Cable bridge
  • Car without battery
  • Car with charged battery
Steps to follow:

one

Determine if you need jumper cables . If you change the key of your car and it clicks, but it does not start, it means that your car has run out of battery and you need to make a bridge to start the car . If the car makes a starting noise and electrical devices such as lights and radio work, then the battery is not your problem, so the jumper cables will not help.

two

Untangle the starter cables so that they are straight. Note that each end has two clips: a red clip and a black clip.

3

Park the vehicle with the battery fully charged next to the vehicle with the dead battery. It is important that the two batteries are close enough so that the cables to make the bridge can reach the opposite car . It is best to park the vehicles with the engines either face to face or side to side. Lift the hoods of the cars.

4

Connect one of the red cable jumper clips to the positive terminal of the dead battery. A "+" sign will indicate which terminal is positive. The positive terminal is also a bit larger than the negative terminal. You may have to remove a plastic cover on the terminal to connect the red clip. The clip should be placed on the metal part of the knot terminal.

5

Connect the other red clamp to the positive terminal of the fully charged battery. This also has the "+" sign and the positive terminal will be a little larger. The clip should put the metal part of the knot terminal.

6

Connect the black clip to the negative terminal of the fully charged battery. This will be indicated by a "-" sign on the battery. The clip should be placed on the metal part of the knot terminal.

7

Ground the other black clip to the car's engine block with the dead battery. Do not panic if the jumper cables pull out some sparks when doing this. If you are not touching the metal parts, you will not feel an electric shock.

8

Start the vehicle with the dead battery. If it does not start, check the connections of the cables on your bridge.

9

Disconnect the starter cables in the reverse order. Remove the black clip on the engine block, first, followed by the black clip on the charged battery and then the red clip next to it. Finally, remove the red clip on the battery.

Tips
  • Be sure to drive your vehicle around 20 to 30 minutes after using starter cables to charge your battery. If not, you may have to use the starter cables the next time you want to start your car.
  • Do not touch the metal parts of the jumper cables or batteries at any time during this process. You could get a good scare if you do it. Also, avoid touching any powdered substance in the engine. This is the battery acid and it could get burned. Use a rag to clean the place
