How to expand RAM memory on a computer

If you wait a long time to open a program, but the computer does not take up much of its processing power, you must update the RAM . Before contemplating an update, check if your computer has slots for free memory modules . Buying RAM when the computer has full slots is usually a waste. Its RAM slots are soldered to the motherboard next to the processor, where the processor is given full access to all its memory registers. On 32-bit systems, you can add up to 4 GB of RAM. 64-bit systems can even have up to 128 GB of RAM.

You will need to:
  • Compatible RAM modules
  • Screwdriver
Steps to follow:

one

Put your hands on a piece of grounded metal. This helps avoid electrostatic discharge, which comes from your body to any integrated circuit.

two

Turn off the computer and remove the cables connected to it.

3

Place the computer on the side that connects all the peripherals.

4

Remove the screws on the opposite edge with respect to the face that your computer put on. These screws hold the equipment cover.

5

Press the case of the cover towards the back of the computer and lift it.

6

Look to the right of your processor for the RAM slots, and find one free to put your new memory module

7

Match the notch on the card with the card in the center of the slot. Push down on the memory module until the clips in the slot begin to close in it. You may have to help the clips to "hug" the memory card.

8

Reassemble the equipment, connect the cables from the back and turn it on again.

Tips
  • Once removed the cover, you can take advantage to wash the dust inside, using a small vacuum cleaner or rags dust traps
