How to create an image of the operating system of a PC

Corrupt hard drives, and operating systems with malfunctioning, can cause many users to lose essential data on their computer. Backing up your files is an effective way to prevent this problem. Unlike a typical backup, a system image contains a copy of the Windows operating system and the programs and files on your computer. Therefore, if the operating system does not boot properly and the hard drive starts to malfunction, you can use the system image to reinstall the operating system along with everything else.

Steps to follow:

one

Click on the "Start" button and select "Control Panel."

two

Click on "Backup your computer" in "System and security". This will open the backup and restore.

3

Go to the left panel of the control panel and click on "Create a system image". Windows requires that you have administrative privileges to create a system image. When Windows asks for credentials, type the administrator password to continue.

4

Choose a location where you want to install the system image. You can install it on a separate drive, USB flash drive, external hard drive partition, or DVD. Select the location and click "Next" to continue.

5

Select the drive (s) from which you want a backup and click "Next". Click "Start" to create the system image.

Tips
  • You can also open the Help and Restoration Center. Enter "Backup" in the search box and select the "Backup and restore" option of the search results.
