How to drive in the mud

If you need to drive on a dirt road that has become slippery mud due to recent rains, you will find that it is easy to get stuck or even have a serious breakdown. If you live in a mountainous area or there is a lot of traffic on the road, it can also be dangerous. Try some of these tips to avoid problems.

Steps to follow:

one

Drive slow! You're much less likely to slip up if you're taking it easy. Try a lower gear to have more control.

two

Never step on the accelerator ! The mud can stick quickly in the area, hindering any other movement. The only thing you will get is that the wheels spin faster and deeper grooves are formed.

3

If you have a normal rear-wheel drive vehicle, put some weight on the back of your vehicle, right on the rear axle. Putting some rocks, gravel or firewood are good tools to redistribute the weight, since they can be used if you get stuck.

4

Stay out of the furrows ! Find the most compact areas to adjust your tires, the high areas of the road, not the grooves. The grooves are more humid, therefore more muddy, slippery, etc.

5

Do not tighten the brakes either. If you go down, head to a flat site or just go slowly! Do not step on the brakes to stop you. In general, it is better to maneuver a little with the pedals.

6

If you get stuck in the mud, it is best to calm down and get out of the vehicle. Look at the layout of the land and find out the easiest way to get out of there. You can try to make a flat path. Grab some rocks, small trunks, or gravel from the back and make a way to get the tires as close to the "road" as possible (focus on the rear wheels if you have rear-wheel drive) and do not Do too high. Go back to the car and very slowly go forward. If the tires begin to turn, try alternately changing with the front, swinging until the tires can be grabbed. You may have to try again and again. Do not be discouraged!

7

Always take a mobile phone so you can always call and ask for help as a last resort. If you do not have one, always travel with drinking water and a sleeping bag for what may happen.

Tips
  • Try to have your own domain at all times, do not insult but listen if someone advises you.
