How to make a survival knife with stone

If you are ever stuck, whether in your car, in the desert, or at home during a natural disaster, a knife may be the only thing that saves your life. It can be used to make rafts, kill animals, help establish broken limbs and cut wood, among many other essential aspects of survival. Making a homemade survival knife from materials found in nature is not difficult, and will serve you well if you ever need to create it in nature or use it while you are at home.

You will need to:
  • Stones
Steps to follow:

one

Look for an elongated stone, roughly shaped like a knife, that you can also hold comfortably in your hand. The most important thing is that the rock should be of a type that can flake and break easily, such as slate.

two

Break a bigger rock, if you can not find a suitable small one. Do it by dropping the stone on another stone on the ground. Be careful when doing this. After releasing the stone, turn your head and protect the face of any fragment that flies. Choose the narrowest piece that looks like a possible knife.

3

With the rock you find in step 1, use a larger stone to remove pieces at the tip. Keep the first stone near the base, well away from where it is. Use the largest rock by hitting an angle against the rock and undercutting pieces.

4

Continue hitting by a few inches in length along both sides. Stop when you have something similar to a cutting blade.

5

Take an irregular stone and use it to remove pieces of the first stone. Press this third rock along the edges of the blade, and remove pieces of rock on the fly. Do this for each edge until the manufactured knife is strong enough.
