How to solve electrical problems of a Mazda

Founded in 1920, the Mazda automobile factory has a wide variety of cars, trucks, and sports and utility vehicles. Although each engine of these vehicles has different power settings and displacements, you can use the same techniques to solve problems common to all Mazda vehicles . Each model of Mazda has a similar electrical configuration. Checking the correct functioning of some key areas of your Mazda engine should not take long, and the sooner you are able to identify a problem, the better.

  • Baking soda
  • Water Cube
  • lint-free cloth
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Spark plugs (variable amount based on the engine)
  • Spark plug wires
  • Philips screwdriver
  • Tweezers with needle tips
Steps to follow:


Open the hood of your Mazda vehicle and locate the engine battery.


Remove each of the terminal covers that connect the positive and negative wires to the motor battery. If the car's battery has cracks in the carcass, it must be removed and replaced completely by a new unit. Check terminal connection points and battery, to detect any signs of rust and corrosion. Wear and damage can cause your car to start slowly.


Use a toothbrush, dipped in water and baking soda, to purge the ports in the battery cables, and in the terminal wires to remove rust. Clean the metal parts of the battery with a clean, lint-free cloth once all parts have been thoroughly cleaned.


Apply a small portion of Vaseline to the terminal wires to delay the formation of corrosive materials. Replace the positive pole cable, and then place the negative terminal. Secure these terminals with the necessary key.


Remove the spark plug caps from your Mazda to access each spark plug and wire combination. Check each of the spark plugs for signs of moisture, overheating, corrosion or any other physical damage.


Spark plugs are cheap spare parts, so trying to clean them, and reinstalling these parts is useless. Pull the damaged spark plugs from the corresponding slots, taking note of the distance between the electrodes of each individual part.


Remove any spark plug wires that look worn and damaged, making sure that each wire is connected to the proper spark plug.


Start the engine to activate the car's alternator. If your car has a slow start, the alternator and the installed electrical wiring could also be defective. To check this, attach a pile of charging tester charcoal to the motor's battery, and measure the output.
