A homemade pirate costume is an excellent and simple alternative to attend a themed party or to show off at Carnival or Halloween. Although at first sight it may seem somewhat complicated, the truth is that if you have the right clothes at home, you can get a great look of buccaneer in just a few minutes.

Do you wonder what you need? Do you want to know what you have to do? Well, attentive, because in the following article we explain how to disguise yourself as a pirate step by step easily with old clothes that you surely have at home.

Steps to follow:

one

A white shirt with long sleeves or 3/4 is usually a basic garment that most of us have and that is ideal for our homemade pirate costume . If the shirt has sleeves or a ruffled collar, much better! For you can imitate even more clearly the slovenly but elegant aesthetics of the pirates.

If it's an old shirt you can cut the sleeves in uneven peaks, so you'll look like a ragged pirate who has sailed the seas. If you do not have any white shirt of that style nothing happens, you can use beige, brown, black and even red.

To continue creating your pirate costume it's time to continue with the bottom part. The good thing about dressing like these characters is that it gives you a lot of freedom, it allows you to dress in many different ways and still be recognizable and wear a good disguise.

For the legs you can use both skirts - if you are a girl -, as well as pants - regardless of whether you are a boy or a girl. If you opt for the skirts they should be wide and long, preferably black. A good way to do them is to use old cloth to give it a ragged and ragged touch.

If you finally decline for the pants, the ideal ones are the pants of half leg or 3/4 in color black, brown or any dark tone. You can also resort to prints as long as they are not very colorful. Depending on the color you have chosen for your shirt you will be better one or the other, but black is always a great option to disguise as a pirate.

If you do not have any type of pants of this type, or skirts or cloth to make them you can always use some leggings.

But neither the shirt nor the pants make the pirate, which will give realism and veracity to your clothes will be the details and accessories. The first of these elements is the belt :

  • It is one of the most important elements in the pirate costume. Preferably it should be very large, with golden buckles and brown or black. You should not put it on as you usually wear belts, but you should place it a little higher, almost in the belly, just as they did at the time.
  • If you do not have a belt, you can tie a scarf or a scarf around your waist, causing a part to hang down. If you are going to opt for this option, we recommend that you use the red tone.

It is also important to add other details to your pirate costume to make it a success:

  • Tie a scarf to your head that is preferably red or in a tone that stands out with the colors of your costume. If you also include the pirate skull you will be the one that best goes in disguise.
  • If you have a vest at home, try to match it with your costume and add it to your outfit, in this way you will get the perfect look .
  • Add golden chains like necklaces and strips with beads to place in your hair, so you'll get a look similar to that of Jack Sparrow .

5

But dressing is not everything. Dressing implies dressing like that character, but also walking like him, acting like him, moving like him, in short, mimicking him. The makeup is a fundamental piece for you to join with the character of the pirate and achieve an even more authentic look. Below we give you some recommendations:

  • Girls : paint the lips in red and eyes with dark shadows, this way they will get a more intense look .
  • Guys : a good way to dress as a pirate is to imitate Jack Sparrow, the character of Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean film saga. To achieve this you must intensify your look using a black eyeliner on the eyes. Another option is to paint your beard, mustache or dirt on your face, giving the appearance the wild touch of the pirate.
  • Children : for the little ones of the house you can opt for a more fun make-up. Watch our video how to make a child pirate and do it at home.
