How to explain to students that copying is wrong

Although many students have assumed that copying is not lawful, the truth is that many still use this method to pass exams or do jobs. That is why it is necessary for teachers to inculcate the negative consequences that plagiarism entails and try to prevent them from doing so. Therefore, we want to explain some tips on how to explain to students that copying is wrong.

In the first place, it will be necessary to explain to the students the reasons why copying is wrong, either in an exam or when carrying out a research work. Among others, it should be noted that:

  • They deceive themselves, since they are wasting their opportunity to learn and grow as people.
  • Copying is not a method to pass the exam, that is, "the end does not justify the means" so the purpose of approving does not prevail over the fact of copying.
  • Approving copying is a disappointment for the student, but also for the teacher, parents and others who have trusted him / her.

Also, a debate in class can be organized to find among all more reasons why it should not be copied in class . In this way, they can discuss what they consider as advantages and disadvantages of plagiarizing information, using "chops", copying from the partner, etc.
