How to write a formal authorization

Are common occasions when we can not do some paperwork by ourselves and we have to authorize someone we trust to carry it out for us. To this end, authorizations are used in writing, for which there is no regulated unitary model, but a common typology that is used in most cases for a multitude of cases. As for the format, choose a blank page without decorations and if possible, write the writing on a computer instead of doing it by hand. You can put at the beginning a header with a larger letter that says "Authorization".

Start by putting "I, " followed by your name and ID number (or passport) and also your address, if you deem it necessary.

Continue the letter with "I authorize", add the name and ID of the authorized person, and then indicate the specific action that person will perform on your behalf. For example, "to pick up the qualification of the language course", "to fill in the application for registration" or "to collect the postal package with the number of XXX", etc. It will depend on each specific case.

The authorization ends with this sentence, in a separate paragraph: "And for the record, I sign in City and date." Add your signature below and you will have your formal authorization ready. You can add your name and surnames also written on the computer next to the signature, in case it is not readable.

  • You can accompany the authorization of a photocopy of your ID, which gives third parties more security even on the authorship of the document.
