Remove the write protection of a camera memory card

The memory cards used in digital cameras and other electronic devices are equipped with a locking mechanism to protect images, videos and other files that you do not want to accidentally erase. This lock - technically known as "write protection" - is a useful tool for photographers who use several memory cards, since the potential for making mistakes with one card and another is very large. A memory card can be easily locked or unlocked at will.

Steps to follow:

one

Remove the memory card from the camera . The location of the memory card and the procedure for removal vary, depending on the brand and camera model, refer to the owner's manual if you are using the camera for the first time.

two

Locate the small tab on the left side of the memory card.

3

Slide the tab, or lock switch, towards the top of the card.

4

Insert the card into the camera or into a card reader connected to your computer. Test if the write protection has been removed from the card trying to erase an image.

Tips
  • If the memory card is not unlocked, remove it from the camera and press the tab up and down three times. Then press the tab in the down / locked position, closer to the bottom of the card. Wait about 30 seconds. Press the tab up to unlock the card.
