How to set up a Wi-Fi network

You have received the router at home, you have plugged it into the power and the telephone line following the instructions included in the box, and you have turned on your computer and it has not been connected. First, look at some data that is written under the router (or in the documentation sent to you): SSID and WEP / WPA / WPA2 / PSK. You will need this data later.

On your computer, go to network connections (Start> My network sites> View network connections). On this screen you will see several icons. One of them is the Wireless Network Connections, which will have a small red cross that indicates that you are not connected to any Wi-Fi network.

Right-click on the Wireless Network Connections icon and choose the option View available wireless networks.

In the new window that will open, all the wireless networks available around you will appear. Yours is the one that matches what you put in SSID under the router. If you do not see it, click on " Update list of networks " (in the menu on the left).

When the window shows the updated list of networks (it may take a while), click on yours and then on the " Connect " button that appears in the lower right part of the window.

A dialog box will open asking you to enter the password in order to connect to the network. It is the code that appears under the router in WEP / WPA / WPA2 / PSK . Enter the password and click on "connect".

If you have entered the password correctly, the computer will connect and, in the list of wireless connections, yours will appear first and as " connected ". Now you can surf the Internet!
