How to get the NIE

The Foreigner Identification Card (TIE) is the document in which the NIE must appear, that is, the Foreigner Identification Number that identifies people arriving to Spain from another country. Foreign citizens have the right and the duty to request it once they have obtained a residence or stay authorization for more than 6 months, since it is necessary for a large number of procedures . This management can be carried out from Spain or in the country of origin; in we explain step by step how the NIE is obtained.

Steps to follow:

one

First of all, it should be noted that for the assignment of NIE by economic, professional or social interests, the following requests are accepted:

  • Those presented in Spain personally by the interested party .

In this way, you must request a previous appointment to be able to carry out this procedure in the appropriate office. Therefore, you must access the website //sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es/icpplus/index.html and choose the province where you reside.

In the case of community people, it will be necessary to choose "EU Certificates" in the field of procedures. For the rest of cases, they should select the appropriate option.

If the NIE is requested in the country of origin, you must go personally to the Spanish embassy or consulate that corresponds to the country of residence.

5

  • Standard application form (EX-15), duly completed and signed by the foreigner.
  • Original and copy of the full passport, or identity document, or travel title or registration card in force.
  • Communication of the economic, professional or social causes that justify the request.
  • When requested through a representative, the latter will certify having sufficient power in which it expressly states that he is authorized to present such request.

6

The people who do the procedure in the country of origin, must present the documents in an envelope addressed to:

Commissariat General de Immigration and Documentation

General directorate of police
