How to maintain the mooring lines

Every skipper or crew member is aware of the importance of the maintenance of the material . Caring for the material on a daily basis will give remarkable results in the duration of the equipment and appearance of the boat, to provoke the envy of the whole pier. In the following article we will offer different tips to prolong the life of the mooring lines. They are elements of much use, and usually exposed to the harsh conditions of the weather, sun, cold and rain.

Steps to follow:

one

Moorings are ropes that are used mainly in port to dock. These cables allow us to park our boat.

two

For all types of moorings on the boat we will use pieces of hose to avoid rubbing with the gatera and other different parts that can cause considerable wear.

3

The usual thing is to use braided cape of white or black colors. They hold up well to friction and their cost is lower.

4

We will tie our boat at a minimum distance from the port, without leaving the moorings very tight, to avoid strong tensions that can cause their breakage, or too loose, to avoid possible sudden pulls caused, for example, by the wake of a boat.

5

Finally, it is important not to leave the moorings submerged in the sea as soon as we leave port. We recommend to always leave the moorings on the jetty to avoid the formation of mold and degradation of the rope that can be caused by the accumulation of submerged hours.

6

In the specific case of the guide, which allows us to recover the moorings on the opposite side of the dock, it is advisable to let it dry on the deck once we leave our boat moored to port.
