How to clean the corroded elements of the batteries

Most portable electronic devices require some type of battery. Many of the more recent devices are based on lithium-ion batteries, but removable batteries, such as AA or AAA are still in use in products such as flashlights and remote controls. Over time, if the batteries are exposed to moisture it is possible that the elements corrode and dirty the interior of the device. This dirt not only prevents the product from working properly, but it is dangerous to the atmosphere and the environment. With this in mind, it is important to clean the corroded element .

You will need to:
  • White vinegar
  • Water
  • Towel
  • Cotton swab
Steps to follow:

one

Remove the corroded batteries from the device and discard them.

two

Wet a towel in white vinegar and clean the battery . If the compartment is too small, a cotton swab can be used. The acid in the vinegar helps break down the corrosion and remove it from the hardware.

3

Brush the inside of the device with a bottle brush or other brush with wire teeth. The brush scrapes the remains of the corrosion.

4

Clean the inside of the appliance with water with the locking device. If you are using an MP3 player or other device with internal cables, avoid the use of water, as this can completely damage the equipment. If it is very corroded you can use a damp cloth to clean the debris, then leave the device in a well-ventilated area for a day or two.

5

Dry the equipment with a soft towel and let it sit before trying to put the batteries back. Placing the batteries in a controller or any other wet device causes even more corrosion and damage.

Tips
  • Be sure not to turn on your equipment while it is wet or wet. This can cause the circuit to be cut.
