How to clean my car's battery

The car's battery is one of the dirtiest areas of the engine and that, on occasion, can hinder the correct operation of the battery. It is important that the battery of the car is clean because it will facilitate the change of the same if necessary and the correct operation. To properly clean the car battery you must follow the following steps:

You will need to:
  • sodium bicarbonate
  • conductive grease
  • Vaseline in cream
Steps to follow:

one

Remove the battery from the engine of your car. Put on gloves and protective glasses. Loosen the terminal nuts.

two

Remove the terminal from the left terminal first and then the terminal from the right terminal. When removing the right terminal, lower the connector cable so that the terminal does not touch the battery.

3

Release the brackets and remove the battery.

4

Clean the battery. Prepare a mixture of baking soda dissolved in hot water (approximately one teaspoon of powder per one cup of water).

5

With a plastic bristle brush soaked in this solution, clean the entire battery cover and terminals until all rust and dirt are removed.

6

Before installing the battery, clean the terminals of the connecting cables with the sodium bicarbonate solution and the plastic bristle brush. While keeping the battery out of the vehicle, clean and polish the cable terminals with them until they are bright.

7

Reinstall the battery in the car. Put the battery in its place inside the car. Adjust the brackets so that the battery is still in place.

8

Grease the terminals and terminals so that it covers all metal parts with a film of conductive grease.

9

One possibility is to use graphite grease, which is highly electrically conductive and moisture insulating; Another alternative is Vaseline cream. Attach the right terminal first and then the left one.

Tips
  • Once the work is finished, rinse the gloves and protective glasses, as well as the brush and keys, with warm water, to prolong its useful life.
