How to do the set-up of the car

Your vehicle must receive a set-up (often called a "major service") every two years or 40, 000 kilometers, whichever comes first, during this set-up your car will receive some new parts that will somehow keep it out of the road for a while. This is what needs to be done so that the car has a good start point.

You will need to:
  • Fuel filters
  • Car parts
  • Plugs
  • Car manuals
  • Oil filters
  • Phillips screwdriver set
  • Distributor covers
  • Air filters
Steps to follow:

one

Replace the fuel filter, if you have a fuel injection system, regular cleaning is not necessary unless the injectors are clogged.

two

Change the spark plugs (unless they are platinum, in which case you have 40, 000 more kilometers to follow). It also examines the spark plug wires and replace them if necessary. A new set of high quality cables is still worthwhile and their price can sometimes be permanently connected to the distributor cap, so they will have to be changed.

3

Replace the distributor cap and the rotor if your car has them (some newer models with ignition without a distributor do not have them).

4

Change the plates and capacitor, if you have a very old car (more or less 1978 or older) that do not have electronic ignition, you really want to change the slots, or adjust them at least, every six months or less (if the you are going to change, also check the ignition time).

5

Check the ignition timing and adjust as necessary (rare for a car with electronic ignition - after 1980 - and some cars do not allow this at all).

6

Adjust the valves as necessary (unless your vehicle has hydraulic valves). Make sure you replace the valve gasket, especially if you see oil on the top of the engine.

7

Check the straps, replace them if they are worn.

8

Check the fluids under the hood and replace as necessary, change the oil filter and oil if more than 3, 000 kilometers have passed since the last change.

9

It replaces the air filter, which must be changed between major services, every 15, 000 kilometers.

10

Adjust the clutch, if you have a manual transmission (although some sports cars now bring self-adjusting clutches).

eleven

Service the battery, adding distilled water (if necessary), cleaning the terminals and the ends of the cables.

12

It replaces the valve of the PCV (positive fan of the crankcase), it can make the running of the car rough or stagnant if it is clogged, it is cheap and easy to replace.

Tips
  • A set-up is not a total cure, but when done regularly, it can prevent a series of costly problems.
