How to register in the key system of the DGT

The Clave system is a new functionality that the Spanish Government has put in place to facilitate the procedures of citizens through the Internet. It is a common identification form for all Spanish public administrations and, in the case of the DGT, it allows you to carry out procedures such as seeing the balance of card points or the fines that may have been placed on you. There are two ways to register in the Clave system . It is about the following:

• In person, by registering with the Tax Agency or a Social Security office.
• Through the Internet, for which you will have to have a DNI-e or a digital certificate. In this article we will explain in detail how to do it in the latter way.

The first step is to enter the electronic branch of the Tax Agency to start the process to register in the Clave system . We remind you that in addition to making arrangements with the DGT, you can use this system to relate to the set of Spanish public administrations.

If you have the electronic certificate correctly installed in your browser, it will already take your basic identifying information. In successive windows, you will have to fill in different additional data that the system asks for.

If everything goes well, you will receive a confirmation message on the screen that everything has gone well and you will be able to print a pdf in which you will be informed in detail about the key system and how you can use it.

It is very important that you click on Get proof to download the indicated pdf. The reason is that in it you will have an activation code that will allow you to generate your first password to access the Password system and other subsequent ones in case you forget or lose this first one.

There are two ways to access the Clave system, with a permanent code and a single one that will be sent to the mobile phone that you have provided in your identification data.

Next, go to Access the service. There, you must enter your ID, your email and the activation code that came in the pdf. By correctly entering all your data, you will already receive another code on your phone that, in turn, you will have to write in another box on the computer. Then, you can create the password you want to use the Password system.

Now you are registered in the Clave system and you already have your password to be able to make certain arrangements with the Spanish public administrations, including the DGT. The process is somewhat cumbersome but it is worth it to avoid moving to physical places and be able to make your efforts through the Internet.
