How to make a fruit center

With its vibrant colors and delicious aroma, a sample of fresh fruit is the perfect way to dress a table at any event or on a special occasion. Instead of using it strictly as a center piece, it can be served together with a chocolate fondue and cream cheese sauce, as a tasty appetizer. Although the presentation could be a bit messy, be assured that the center with fruit will not last long, once the customers begin to nibble. You will surely impress your guests the moment they enter your door.

You will need to:
  • Container
  • Foam
  • Bread knife
  • A plastic wrap
  • Tape
  • Wooden skewers
  • Cookie cutters
  • Melon scoop ball
  • Fresh fruit
  • Lettuce or leaves of parsley
Steps to follow:

one

Wash a bowl or container with warm water and soap, as the container will hold the fruit and it should be clean on the outside and inside. It must have a stable base and be strong enough to support the weight of the fruit.

two

Cut a piece of foam with a bread knife, matching the shape of the container. The foam should fit perfectly inside the bottom. Wrap the foam with a piece of clear plastic and secure it with tape. Place the foam inside the container and hide it by placing lettuce leaves on top of the foam.

3

Cut pineapple, watermelon and melon in various forms with cookie cutters. Choose the shapes that you like the most according to the occasion. For example, on Valentine's Day you can offer hearts and flowers, while at Christmas you can offer stars and snowflakes. Avoid complex shapes since the image may not be clear when the fruit is cut.

4

Carefully place wooden skewers on the bottom of each fruit shape . The specific location of the brochette depends on the shape of the fruit. For example, place the skewer through the base of the hearts, stars and snowflakes so that the fruit is vertically in the presentation. Place a melon ball on the tip of the skewer, this will form the center of the flower.

5

Cut several wooden skewers in half. Decorate them with grapes, strawberries, pineapple in pieces and melon balls. Change the pattern from one skewer to the next. While some skewers may offer only grapes, other skewers may offer strawberries and pineapples.

6

Organize your fruit skewers in the presentation, taking care not to put them in the foam. First place the highest skewers and then use the short spikes to fill the empty spaces. If you wish, you can fill any extra space with lettuce leaves or parsley leaves.

Tips
  • Although you may be tempted to use other types of fruit in this presentation, you will have to be careful with the size and texture. For example, cranberries are often too small to place on skewers, while raspberries and bananas may be too fragile.
  • If you want to incorporate other types of fruits, a little creativity will be necessary. For example, you can freeze the bananas or peaches and cover them with chocolate before placing them in the presentation. The blueberries can be placed on toothpicks, to decorate the edges of the tray. Let your creativity shine and experiment with new ideas.
