When we have a conversation with other people it is normal that we hesitate to pronounce certain words and ask ourselves if we are really saying them well, or if they are masculine or feminine. We understand by self-esteem the assessment of oneself and that, in general, it should be positive. According to the Dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy 'self-esteem' is a feminine name, so we must use it under the article 'la' and not 'el', or accompanied by adverbs or feminine adjectives.

As we have seen in the previous section, saying 'self-esteem' is incorrect because it is a feminine and not a masculine name. There are terms like 'sea' or 'heat' that are ambiguous and we can talk about them in both feminine and masculine, but in this case we only have to do it through the feminine one.
