The self-esteem

We understand by self-esteem the assessment of oneself and that, in general, it should be positive. According to the Dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy 'self-esteem' is a feminine name, so we must use it under the article 'la' and not 'el', or accompanied by adverbs or feminine adjectives.

Examples :

  • He has very little self-esteem .
  • Caring for self-esteem is very important to feel good about yourself.

*The self steem

As we have seen in the previous section, saying 'self-esteem' is incorrect because it is a feminine and not a masculine name. There are terms like 'sea' or 'heat' that are ambiguous and we can talk about them in both feminine and masculine, but in this case we only have to do it through the feminine one.
