How to change DNS in Windows 8

Changing the DNS (Domain Name System) to those of another server can help you improve your Internet connection , in case you are experiencing problems in your computer as an excessively slow speed. It is a very fast and simple action that you can perform yourself in any operating system. If you have a Windows 8 and do not know how to do it, do not wait any longer and discover in this article how to change DNS in Windows 8.

Steps to follow:

one

The first thing you must do to change the DNS of your Windows 8 will be to access the Control Panel ; to do this, go to the Start menu and do the search through the magnifying glass on the top right or directly start writing "panel ...".

If you are on the desktop, you can also access the control panel by right-clicking on the Windows icon in the taskbar, in the lower left.

two

Once you are in the control panel, you must click on the option "Networks and Internet" through which you can modify different parameters of your connections, either by cable or wireless.

3

Next, you must go to the "Center of shared networks and resources" to be able to access the configuration of your networks and Internet connections and thus be able to change the DNS of your computer.

4

The next step will be to access, from the menu on the left, the option "Change the adapter configuration" and at that moment a new window will open on your computer.

5

Once there, you must choose the connection you are using, that is, if you are connected via cable or through a wireless connection. In our case, we are connected without cables, so we will click with the right button on the Wi-Fi icon and select the option Properties .

If you are connected by wires, you may see the Local Area Connection icon; in that case, you must access the properties of that network.

6

At that moment, you will be opened the properties of the network in a small window and you should look for the option corresponding to "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" . Once you find it, you must click on it and then on the "Properties" button.

It should be noted that if you try to change the DNS in a version of Windows XP instead of Windows 8, you should access "TCP / IP Protocol".

7

And finally it will be through the properties of the Internet protocol that you can modify the DNS of your Windows 8, so you must select the option " Use the following DNS server addresses:" and write both the primary DNS and the secondary DNS you want to use

In our example, we have changed the DNS for Google's public DNS, which corresponds to the IP:

  • Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8 (primary DNS)
  • Alternative DNS server: 8.8.4.4 (secondary DNS)

Once you have inserted all the values, you just have to click on OK and you will have already modified your DNS for those of another server.
