How to teach children geometric shapes

For a preschooler, learning geometric shapes is the first step to learning geometry and spatial reasoning. Students who incorporate the forms early, probably learn more easily in the future, because they have a geometric learning base. Teaching children triangles and circles is included in learning in all forms, but if the curricula are focused on triangles and circles, there are some tips that can help the learning process.

You will need to:
  • Plastic forms
  • Paper
  • Colored pencils
  • Form books
Steps to follow:

one

Show photos to children of circles and triangles . Use three-dimensional plastic circles and triangles so children have objects to hold. Talk about what you do to a circle, such as its round shape or what it does to a triangle, such as the three sides and three vertices. Allow children to play with the plastic forms and use them in combination with toy blocks or other educational toys.

two

Read a book of forms after reviewing three-dimensional and two-dimensional shapes. While reading the book, trace the circle with your finger and point to the lines in the triangle . Show photos to children of objects that are naturally circles and triangles, such as the moon, a slice of pizza or a pointed hat.

3

Take the children on an adventure to find ways. Take a walk around the room or building to find the shapes. Point out the circles and triangles that are in the classroom. Encourage the children to do the same and begin to write a list of their findings. When the children have finished exploring, discuss the lists or check the objects together.

Tips
  • In toy stores there are many games for children, which use circles and triangles, such as positioning the pieces in places that fit.
