How to change the format of Mac screenshots

Making screenshots on Mac is a very simple operation, something characteristic of Apple products. It is enough with a combination of keys, normally, capital letter + cmd + 3, to have our screenshot, which by default is in .png format .

Sometimes, it is more comfortable that these screenshots are lighter, so it would be more useful to make them in .jpg. To facilitate the task, in .com we explain how to change the format of the screenshots of Mac.

Steps to follow:

To do this, we will need to use the command console, which on Mac is called Terminal. Let's not panic, we should simply write some very simple orders so that everything works well.

This program that allows us to communicate directly with the system and modify essential aspects of our team is found in the Utilities folder, in Applications. We will simply use it to change the format of the screenshots.

Once we have it open, we simply have to write the following two lines:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg

killall SystemUIServer

You can copy the lines directly from this article and paste them in your Terminal. Do not forget to give an enter at the end. Now, you will have your screenshots in the format you want. If you prefer any other, you should only change jpg for the extension of the file in question.

  • It is not advisable to use the Terminal if we are not advanced users, so we have to refrain from carrying out compromised operations in it.
