How to fix a wet electronic device

Do not worry, you do not have to tell us that you had the phone in your pocket and you fell into the toilet, or that the MP3 slipped from your hands and fell into a puddle, or that you simply left your computer on the terrace, you forgot about it and it started to rain. The result is always the same: wet electronic device and panic before the possibility of drowning. Is it possible to recover an electronic device that has fallen into the water ? At least you can try with some tricks that we show you in.

First of all, make sure the device is turned off (turn it off and unplug it if it is not) and do not turn it on. Nothing to check if it works: when turning on a wet electronic device, you run the risk of creating a short circuit that would damage it if it still worked.

The next step is to disassemble the device as much as you can: open it and remove the battery and cards, for example, in the case of a mobile phone or a camera. If it is a more complex device with more removable parts, make sure you memorize where each one is going to be able to reassemble it (you can record it on video).

If it is very wet, spread a towel on a table or some piece of absorbent cloth and place all the components on top. Leave it like that for a day.

With the water removed, it's time to get rid of the humidity, which threatens to be the one to kill your device definitely. For this, we take a bowl or another large container and fill it with rice (it is very absorbent). We sink the pieces of the device between the grains and leave them at least 24 hours.

We reach the most critical point: to reassemble the device and see if it still works. Take the pieces out of the rice and clean them with a makeup brush or small brush without brand new. Mount the device and turn it on. Works?
