How to put password to a folder on Mac

If you share your Mac with more users and there are contents that you would prefer not to have access to, one of the options you have at your disposal is to put them all in a folder and protect it with a password . So, every time someone tries to open that folder and access those files, you will have to enter a special code. How to do it? It is quite easy. Steps to follow:

Go to Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility.

Once in Disk Utility, go to the file menu and select New> Disk Image from folder.

A pop-up window will open. Select the folder you want to protect and click on " Image ".

A new window will open in which you will have to select how you want to save that image. Open the drop-down menu in Format of the image and select Read / Write; and in encryption AES 128-bit encryption . Click on Save

A window will open in which you will have to enter the password you want to use to protect that folder. Write it in both fields, make sure that the "Save password on the keychain" option is not checked, and press OK.

A dmg file will be created in the directory in which you had the folder you wanted to protect. Check that it asks for a password when trying to open it and that everything is in order. You can now delete the original folder and leave only the protected one.
