How to make a water clock

Make this water clock and use it to tell time. If the hand turns too fast, leave a thick-headed pin at the bottom of the plastic bottle. Or if not put a piece of stick that is fine through the hole. If the cork does not go down when the water goes down, put a piece of plasticine on the rope. Remember to change the container that you have put in the bottom of the box, when it is filled with water. Look at the following article on, how to make a water clock.

You will need to:
  • A narrow bottle of soft plastic
  • A large hard cardboard box about 40 cm high
  • 2 knitting needles
  • 2 corks
  • 4 pieces of rope as long as wide is the box
  • A sheet of paper
  • A piece of cardboard
  • Clay
  • A waterproof container
  • A pencil, scissors and glue
Steps to follow:

one

Cut out the bottom of a plastic bottle. Drill four holes in the bottle near the edge (a). Put a piece of string through each hole. Tie a final knot of each string to the outside of the bottle (b).

two

Then open the top of the box . Cut out a small door on one side near the bottom. Make a hole in each corner of the box at the top.

3

Place the bottle inside the box. Insert a rope through each of the holes in the top of the box and tie a knot at each end. Put the container in the bottom of the box.

4

Next, cut out a circle of paper. Write the numbers from 1 to 12 as the face of a clock. Glue it to the front of the box near the lid. Make a hole in the center of the circle.

5

Then cut out a clock hand from the piece of cardboard . Drill a hole through the rounded part (a). Put a knitting needle through the hole and stick the hand to the end of the needle (b).

6

Using the scissors, make a hole in a cork. Put the needle through the center of the watch face. Insert the cork into the needle and remove it from the back of the box.

7

Cut a rope a little longer than the height of the box. Tie the cork on one end. Put some plasticine on the rope next to the cork and also on the other end of the rope.

8

Then pass the rope around the cork as in the drawing. Drop the cork into the bottle . Insert the other needle by nailing it near the first one. Let the rope pass over.

9

To finish, pour some water in the plastic bottle . Pull the end of the rope that has the plasticine so that the cork only reaches the water.
