How to push the car when the battery is worn

Surely we have all encountered the unpleasant situation of having to start a car that has no battery, at that time we have pushed it up a hill to see if it starts. Cars with manual transmission (gearshift) can be started even when the battery or starter does not work. This is how you do it.

Steps to follow:

one

Make sure the problem is the battery or the starter motor, if the motor sounds ("rrr-rrr-rrr") when the key is turned, then the problem is not the starter or the battery .

two

Have at least one person sitting in the driver's seat and one person pushing, medium-sized and large cars require two or three people to push them, depending on the strength of the people and if the car is parked on flat or slopes .

3

Turn off all accessories (radio, windshield wipers, lamps).

4

Turn the key to the "on" position.

5

Press the clutch pedal with your foot.

6

Put the transmission in first or second.

7

Release the handbrake and brake foot.

8

Keep in mind that people who are pushing need to get the car to go as quickly as possible. This works best on a hill or a slope.

9

Release the clutch pedal while pressing the accelerator pedal when the car moves fast enough. This will cause the engine to start.

Tips
  • Cars can also be started by pushing back, just put the transmission in reverse instead of in first or second and push the car backwards.
  • A car with a completely dead battery can often not be started by pushing.
  • A single person can turn on a car and push if it is on a hill, but this can be very dangerous as it should jump inside the car once it takes speed and there is a great possibility that you will lose control of the car.
  • The manufacturers of certain specific models do not recommend starting the car in this way. Check your owner's manual to see the warnings.
