How to connect with God

Patients who experience a moment of spiritual emptiness, according to St. John of the Cross, "are left with dryness in such a way that not only do they not experience pleasure and consolation in spiritual things ... But, on the contrary, they find insipidity and bitterness in such things. " This "dark night of the soul" is associated with the trauma in the popular imagination, the truth is that many believers have the feeling of disconnection with God at some point in their lives. If you are looking for a way to reconnect with God, a variety of options are available to you.

Steps to follow:

one

Read the sacred scriptures of your religion every day. The best time to do this is early in the morning, so you can meditate on the scriptures throughout the day, or just before going to bed, so you can end the day with God . However, you can even spend time reading between work meetings. Pray for God to open his heart to his word before and after reading.

two

Pray every day Although you should set aside a fairly considerable amount of time for morning and evening prayer, you should also take advantage of the moments of quick prayer throughout the day, such as in the shower, on your way to work or while Wait for the computer to boot. Ask God for a closer relationship. Share your day of hopes and anxieties with him. If you already pray regularly, try to vary the way you do it. Meditative, spontaneous and traditional prayer should be part of their repertoire.

3

Attend religious services. This will give you a period of time in which you are in communion with God . If you already attend worship services and do not feel like you are going to find anything outside of them, try attending a different service. Even within the same parish, these services may have different musical styles or preaching, and one of the styles may appeal to you more than others.

4

Read books by religious authors and associate with friends who share your religious beliefs. Reading or hearing about other people's faith can help. In addition, your feeling of disconnection from God may come from a feeling of skepticism or disbelief. Partnering with other believers, either in person or through reading, will help you see that you are not alone and will also help you see how God works on a day-to-day basis.

5

Volunteer for a cause that you believe is timely. This cause may be religious, or not. If you feel strong about animal cruelty, for example, God may be calling to help your helpless creatures. Doing the work of God can give you a sense of purpose and a sense of connection with your will.

Tips
  • Do not stop praying or reading the scriptures telling yourself that you have to be in the spiritual mood just before you pray. Although a very spiritual state of mind is of great help, waiting for the perfect moment can tell you to just wait forever. A distracted prayer is better than no prayer at all.
