How to clean a fishing reel

When we go fishing, we must bear in mind that the reel can wear out due to the possible remains that accumulate and prevent it from working properly. Mineral water, rust remain wet for so long, or salt if you have fished in the sea, are some of the problems you can find. This may cause you to have to replace the spool earlier than expected. The life of a reel can be longer if you are careful with the accumulation of these materials. The solution is to clean the reel well every time you finish fishing. Steps to follow:

First, remove the reel from the cane to clean it easily. To do this, unscrew the nut that connects it to the handle.

Mix cold water and liquid soap in a bowl, and insert the spool for about ten minutes. When you take it out, dry the entire surface with a cloth and rinse it in cold water to remove the remains of soap, salt or algae that may have remained.

Now, to continue with the cleaning of the fishing reel, remove the spool from the reel by unscrewing the nut that joins them. Then, introduce all the metal parts and the pivot in oxygenated water for a couple of minutes.

Rinse, again with cold water, all the parts and let it dry in the open air. Once dry, you can reassemble the fishing reel.

When you put it back on the fishing rod, make sure it is completely dry before storing it.
