How to turn on a car when it is very cold

Cold weather can make it very difficult, or impossible, to turn on your car . Taking some preventative measures can keep your car ready to turn on at any time. When temperatures drop, follow these steps to start your car in cold climates.

Steps to follow:

one

Store your car inside a garage or under a porch, if possible. Keeping your car with a cover can reduce the effects of snow and extreme temperatures.

two

Put the key in the ignition and try to start the car, if it does not start in 5 seconds, stop and wait a minute before trying again. If your car is not fuel injection, you should pump the accelerator a couple of times before trying to turn it on .

3

Make sure your car's battery is new and full. An old and weak battery does not have the power to start a car in cold weather.

4

Apply heat in the car's engine compartment, use a circulation heater designed to heat car engine compartments. This will heat the fluids in the engine and make the car easier to start.

5

Leave the car to rest in the neutral position after the ignition. The fuel needs time to warm up before you can drive, starting to drive the car immediately after the ignition can damage the engine.

Tips
  • Do not light the car in a closed area and allow it to warm up. Smoke from exhaust gases is dangerous and deadly if inhaled for too long.
