Tips and tricks to see the stars

Every good observer of stars must always be ready to enjoy the sky anytime and anywhere. Whether in a privileged environment, with a good starry heritage or in a big city, where the stars are reluctant to let themselves be seen, observing the night sky brings us inspiration, peace and emotions in equal parts.

It is not necessary to be a specialist in astronomy or invest large sums of money to appreciate the beauty of a starry sky or to learn to observe the stars. Luckily, it is a fascinating activity that is available to everyone.

The landscapes of a starry sky are accessible to the naked eye. In fact, although many instruments can be used, ranging from binoculars to telescopes, the vastness of the sky has many surprises reserved for us only by looking up: meteor showers or shooting stars, the Moon and other visible planets or constellations.

Practical tips

Although on a clear night you can make interesting observations, it would be good to have your own instruments to enjoy more and better of the experience. They can serve you a pair of binoculars or a small telescope with which to see much further.

We can make one ourselves or acquire it. If we dare to do a bit of DIY, we will need a large convex lens (magnifying lens), a small concave lens (glasses), two cardboard or plastic tubes and plasticine to adjust the lens properly. Basically, we will place a lens on each end of the tube and we will fit the tubes so they can slide.

It is also essential to learn the constellations and apply your knowledge practicing every night looking at the sky, always changing. And do not forget to go warm in winter.

As you can not always choose the ideal place, that is, far from the city, with clear skies and with an atmosphere as pure as possible, just try not to bother too much the street lighting or your home . Although it will not be the same, it will always be satisfying to look up there.

Conclusions

If you like shooting stars, every night you could get to see one every ten minutes. But, and the famous rains of stars? For that you will have to wait for Earth to cross a cloud of dust left by a comet, because only then will you see them more frequently.

In August you will have a great opportunity to enjoy them thanks to the phenomenon known as "The Perseids". It happens when one of the comets of the constellation of Perseus approaches the sun and gives off some luminescent particles to which, according to tradition, we can ask for our wishes.
