How to calculate the area if the diameter is given

The diameter of a circle is probably the closest thing to a soul. A straight measure that connects all the points of its circumference to its opposite, traveling through the center of the form, the diameter, controls the circumference of the circle. Although the area of a circle is usually calculated with the radius, which is half the diameter, the area can also be found directly from the length of the diameter with the equation of the area equal to 1/4 * pi * diameter squared.

You will need to:
  • Calculator
Steps to follow:

one

In order to calculate the area with a diameter, you have to divide the number pi by 4. The number Pi is approximately 3.14, therefore divided by 4 equals approximately 0.785.

two

Make the square of the diameter measurement. For this example, the diameter is 6 centimeters. The square of 6 centimeters is 36 square centimeters.

6 x 6 = 36

3

Multiply the diameter squared by a quarter of pi. The conclusion of this example is the following: 36 square centimeters multiplied by 0.7854, is equal to 28.2744 square centimeters.

4

In the following image we explain why it is the following equation of the area of a circle and because it is divided by four. You can learn the two formulas but now we explain where the formula with the diameter comes from.

Tips
  • If you want to calculate the area by the radius of the circumference, it is the same but with the equation: A = pi * radius squared
