How to combine a partition on a hard drive

Fusing a partition into a hard drive seems like a daunting task, but in reality, it's a fairly simple process. In the past, merger partitions were a complicated procedure that required the help of third-party software. The release of operating systems like Windows 7 has made the procedure easier, because the tools for merging are built with backup copies of both partitions before making any changes.

Steps to follow:

one

Back up at least the smaller of the two partitions on a spare hard drive, by copying and pasting the content to the other drive.

two

Click on "Start" and then click on "PC." Finally, left click on "Manage".

3

Click on "Disk Management" in the menu on the left.

4

Select the partition you have saved on the screen that appears, and click on it.

5

Select the option "Delete volume ..." and confirm that you want to delete all data. The process is completed when you realize that there is now unallocated space in the unit.

6

Select the partition with which you wanted to combine the first, and click on it, before selecting "Extend Volume ...".

7

Extend the partition by the volume of the previous partition and click "OK". The partitions will now merge.

8

Copy and paste the data from the erase partition with its new larger partition.

Tips
  • If you do not have access to an operating system that does not allow you to easily merge partitions, download third-party software such as Partition Magic, which will automate the process for you.
