How to make experiments with air

You can not see the air, but it fills any space and crevice in the world. When something seems empty, it really is full of air. Air is a gas that you can not feel except when the wind blows or when you breathe. The earth is covered with a thick layer of air. This layer has a great weight and affects everything that is around us. See the following article for how to do experiments with air.

You will need to:
  • 2 glasses and a bowl with water
  • A wooden strip about 45 cm and 4 cm wide
  • 2 sheets of newspaper
  • a hammer or a mallet
Steps to follow:

one

An empty glass seems to have nothing inside. To check that it is full of air, place it face down in a bowl of water, as here. The air almost completely prevents water from entering.

two

Now tilt the glass a little. The air will form bubbles in the water and it will fill the glass. Try to imprison air in a full glass under the water, as seen in the drawing.

3

This is another experiment with air. Put the ribbon on the table, with a piece of it outside the edge. Spread two sheets of newspaper on the table and the wood and stretch it so that it is very smooth.

4

Hit the wooden batten hard with a hammer or mallet. Do it quickly and the wood will break. If you only press the piece of wood that protrudes from the edge of the table, the newspaper will rise because the air is introduced under the paper: therefore, give a good blow to the wood.
