How to prepare the car to stand a long time

Sometimes we have to leave our car a long time stopped, when we travel, because we change our country or because we have an illness, in those cases you have to take into account some things so that after that time the car will start again .

You will need to:

Car batteries
Car battery chargers
Covers for cars or canvas
Car oil
Car wax
Additives in the fuel
Fuel filters
Oil filters
Cat stands.

Steps to follow:

Choose a garage or other parking facility that is dry. Moist air will cause rust for a long period of time.

Fill the fuel tank and add a stabilizer fuel additive to prevent the gasoline from rusting and deteriorating. An empty or low gasoline tank rusts internally as well as moisture can accumulate inside the tank.

Relieve the weight of the tires, putting the car in a jack stands (available for about € 15 a pair - You will need to have two pairs). Check the manual of the car and / or your mechanic about the safest place to place the jack stands.

Wash and wax the car to prevent corrosion.

Disconnect the battery (although you will probably have to replace it afterwards anyway) so that the alarm does not go off. For short term storage (when you are not in the area) you can ask a friend to start the car every few weeks and leave it on for 5 or 10 minutes (do not light a car in a garage without adequate ventilation, the monoxide of carbon can kill).
