How to teach figures or solid forms

Children begin to learn about forms in kindergarten, from flat figures to then learn shapes or solid figures . Solid forms are three-dimensional shapes, including cylinders, cubes, prisms, pyramids, and spheres. You can help your son or daughter learn to identify these forms through these interesting activities.

Steps to follow:

one

Bases on your child's knowledge of flat figures and use them to introduce solid forms. For example, show your child that a pyramid is made up of triangular faces and a square base.

two

Talk about the parts of solid shapes or figures, such as edges, vertices, base, and faces. Help your child discover the number of these elements in each form.

3

Watch an educational television show or movie with solid forms. You can also find sites that teach children about these online forms.

4

Help your child discover everyday objects that look like shapes or solid figures . For example, an ice cream cone, a cylindrical coffee can, and a cube-shaped box.

5

Do interesting activities with the shapes and show your child. For example, make a game of identifying the shapes, building small structures together (like a cube-shaped house for a favorite doll) and make a poster of solid figures.

6

Help your child learn to draw shapes. You can start by drawing a flat figure and build on it to form a solid shape, so your child will build a mental association.

7

Check the shapes and figures every day. Your child remembers information about solid forms through regular discussions.
