How to unsubscribe from unemployment

Any person who is unemployed and receives a tax benefit has the obligation to inform the INEM, in the event that it finds employment, their new employment status and their willingness to withdraw from the collection of the unemployment benefit . This obligation affects only the worker, and therefore, the employer only has to communicate his registration to the Social Security, and not to the employment office. If you want to know the steps about how to unsubscribe from unemployment, do not miss this article.

What do you have to communicate?

The new worker must inform about what type of employment contract he has signed, since depending on what it is, it may cause some effects or others.

In this way, if an unemployed person signs a full-time work contract, he waives the payment of the subsidy, but contributes to the Social Security, both for retirement and to request, once again, the unemployment benefit.

On the other hand, if the unemployed person signs a part-time contract, they can collect unemployment benefits even if they work. The subsidy or benefit is reduced proportionally to the number of hours worked. That is, if a part-time contract is signed and the working day is four hours a day, the benefit or subsidy that will be charged will be 50% of the value of the benefit.

Do not forget that Social Security is also paid, but proportionally to the working day. If the unemployed do not report that they have found a job, they risk losing the right to collect the subsidy or benefit for a year.

How can I unsubscribe from unemployment?

There are different ways in which unemployment can be reported :

  • By phone, by calling 901 11 99 99.
  • Requesting a prior appointment and communicating directly at the INEM office closest to your home.
  • By Internet: To access the service that makes the SEPE website available, a DNIe or electronic certificate is required.

People who choose to communicate in person the withdrawal of the benefit must fill out a form that is available in the office or on the SEPE website. With this form you can also request the modification of personal data or the change of the bank account.

Persons forced to make the communication

The people who receive an unemployment benefit that are obliged to report the unemployed leave are:

  • Those who place themselves as employed workers.
  • Workers who decide to register as self-employed.
  • By reaching the minimum retirement age.
  • Temporary disability due to common illness.
  • Provisional or permanent disability.
  • Absolute permanent disability or great disability.
  • Maternity / Paternity.

The unemployed who ask for unemployment leave by placement as an employed or self-employed worker can apply again for unemployment benefits once the employment contract is finalized. On the other hand, people who enter prison can be deprived of the payment of unemployment, but that must be established by judicial decision.
