Are your messages lost in the sea of messages that is the group you have with your friends? Do you want to make clear some part of your text? Do you have to send a more formal message and want to be able to edit it? If so, or if you simply want to surprise your contacts with an original text, in .com we explain how to put bold and italics on WhatsApp in both Android and iOS.

Steps to follow:

one

If you want to know how to put bold and italics on WhatsApp and you have Android you should download the latest update or, at least, have version 2.12.535 of this application.

If you already have the minimum required version you can already enter the different text formats, be it bold, italic and even cross out the text, to give more dynamism to your conversations and make them much clearer and more visual.

If you have ever seen how a contact wrote you a text in italics on WhatsApp it is likely that you have spent minutes trying to find the configuration that allows you to do it too, however, this does not appear automatically but it is necessary to use a series of commands to decorate your text the way you want. Below we explain how to put bold and italics on WhatsApp.

As we said there is no direct button to put bold or italics, but if you have Android it is very simple to get the text to shape:

  • How to put bold in WhatsApp: Simply add the character of the asterisk in front of and behind the word you want to appear in bold. For example, if we wanted to highlight the word "" in bold, we would only have to put **, and by sending the message it would appear like this: .
  • How to put italics in WhatsApp: For the italics it is a similar operation but changing the character that we put before and behind the word. If for the bold we had to write the asterisk, in this case we will do it with the underscore . Taking the previous example, if we wanted to write "" in italics in WhatsApp, it would be enough to write __ and when we send it, we would see it like this: .
  • How to cross out a word in WhatsApp: Following the same mechanism that we used in the two previous occasions, if we wanted to use the crossed out word format in WhatsApp we should use the virgulilla, the orthographic sign that we use for the "ñ". So, we would have to write ~~ to see the word crossed out.

But if you want to put bold and italics and have a mobile with iOS operating system do not worry, in fact, these phones were the first who could enjoy the text editing that allows the application WhatsApp. In order to access this functionality it is necessary that you update your application, at least, until version 2.12.17.

The operations you must follow to make bold, italic or crossed out are the same as in Android:

  • How to put bold on iOS : Adding the asterisk character (*) to the beginning and end of the word you want to put in bold.
  • How to italicize on iOS : Adding the underscore character (_) at the beginning and end of the word you want to italicize.
  • How to cross out a word in iOS : Adding the character before (and after)

Another success of this new functionality is that you can use several of these formats at the same time, in the same word or message, combining them so that you can write the same word both in italics and in bold.

However, if you choose to put more than one format at the same time, you should check that the commands are in the correct order, the first character that you put will also be the last one you have to put. For example, if we want to put the word "" in bold or in italics, we will do it like this: _ ** _ or like that * __ *. If we do it this way _ * _ * or this * _ * _ will not come out correctly.

As you have been able to determine, it is indifferent if you first put the asterisk or the underscore as long as you enclose the command correctly.
