How to add a custom ringtone on iPhone

One fact that disappoints new iPhone users is the inconvenience of not being able to add custom ringtones to your mobile device instead of the default variables that Apple offers for it. For the same reason, if you are currently using an iPhone and you want to be able to have your favorite song as a ringtone, in .com we teach you to do it step by step, easy and free ... Read carefully!

You will need to:
  • An iPhone with firmware 1.1.2 or higher.
  • A computer with iTunes 10.5.2 or higher.
  • Your favorite song.
Steps to follow:

one

Go to the iTunes library and edit your favorite song so it does not contain accents or titles in its title. In fact, it is recommended that it be made up only of uppercase and lowercase letters. If you have a small illustration of the album to which it belongs, delete it to avoid problems.

two

Play the song in iTunes and write down on a piece of paper the exact second of the song that you would like it to sound on your iPhone when they call you. The extract should not last more than 30 seconds. Then, right-click on the topic and select 'Get information'.

3

In the 'Options' section, type in 'Start' and 'End' the interval you want to ring on your mobile when they call you, that is, the data pointed to in the previous step. Remember that you can not spend more than 30 seconds. Then, press 'Ok' and listen to it in iTunes to check that it only plays the interval you gave it.

4

Press the right mouse button on top of the song and select the option 'Create AAC version'. If this version does not appear, go to 'Edit> Preferences> General> Import settings> Import using> AAC encoder'. Here you accept all the options and save the modification.

5

Two songs should already appear in iTunes; select the new one and click on the right mouse button to select 'Show in Windows Explorer'.

6

Automatically, you must have opened a Windows folder with the icon of the song that we just created to make our personalized ringtone ... Perfect!

7

If you use Windows 7 or Windows Vista, go to the 'Organize' menu and select 'Folder and search options', as it appears in the image. If, however, you enter Windows XP, go to the 'Tools' menu and click on 'Folder options ...'.

8

Go to the 'view' section and disable the option 'Hide file extensions for known file types'. Next, press 'Accept' to save the modifications.

9

From this small modification your 'mp3' file must have changed its extension now to '.m4a'. If different extensions appear on your computer, you only want to keep the '.m4a'.

10

Select the file and change the name so that the extension ends in '.m4r', as it appears in the image.

eleven

Double click on the file that you just changed the extension and you will see that it opens, automatically, with iTunes and that, in addition, the program has created a new section called 'Tones'.If the file was not opened with iTunes, select it with the right mouse button, click on 'Open with ...' and press 'iTunes'.

12

Remove the AAC file that we had created in the first steps from the program library.

13

Connect the iPhone to the computer and synchronize the tone you just created with iTunes, as it appears in the capture. Next, press 'Apply'. This step will add the file to 'Custom Sounds' from the iPhone menu, go there and select it as a ringtone .

  • This method does not work if you have enabled the option "Manage my music and videos manually" in iTunes.
