How to disinfect luggage for a trip

Most people who travel by train, plane or bus know about the importance of washing their hands after using the bathroom, before eating a meal or having a snack. One item that houses several types of germs that is often overlooked is baggage. If yours is a leather suitcase or a nylon or canvas bag, you should bear in mind that the surface of the luggage is handled by several people before it arrives back to you. Disinfecting the interior and exterior of the luggage will protect you from possible illness during or after the trip.

You will need to:
  • 1 tbsp soft soap
  • 2 cups of water
  • Soft cloth, hand towel or paper towel
  • Disinfection spray
Steps to follow:

one

Take out the contents of the suitcase you want to disinfect, including clothes, toiletries and shoes.

two

Combine one tablespoon of mild soap and two cups of water. If you are in a hotel room and there is no soap to wash dishes by hand, you can do so with a mild facial cleanser or body wash. Make sure that detergents and beauty soap products do not contain strong dyes or perfumes.

3

Dip a soft cloth in the mixture and clean the inside and outside of each suitcase . Pay special attention to the areas that are most exposed to germs, such as wheels, belts and handles.

4

Let the luggage dry and spray all the outside and inside of the piece with disinfectant spray. If your bag is made of leather, try first in an inconspicuous area to make sure it does not cause damage.

Tips
  • Use hand sanitizer spray if you can not perform disinfection. The disinfectant is poured over a cloth and then placed in the suitcase.
