How to use a caliper

We often need to know the extent of some things . We measure the space with a meter and smaller objects such as paper, we measure them using a rule. But sometimes, especially in sectors such as architecture, fine arts and engineering, we need exact measurements of parts of a piece that we can not access with the rule. For this, I will give you some tips on how to measure the interior of a piece.

You will need to:
  • A piece or object
  • A caliper or caliper
Steps to follow:

one

Get a caliber, better known as "vernier caliper" . It is a tool that you can acquire in stationeries, hardware stores and stores of material for fine arts, models and crafts.

two

The simplest ones are made of plastic and the most advanced ones are metallic and have a screw that allows you to fix the positions. At a professional level, there is the foot of king with clock and digital screen, although its price is very high.

3

To measure the interior of the piece, use the clamp on the top.

4

To know the external measurement of the piece, use a larger clamp located at the bottom.

5

Slide the tool until the clip is embedded in the object and observe the measurements in millimeters.

6

Slide the tool by placing your finger on a protrusion until the clip fits into the object and observe the measurements in millimeters.

7

To measure the depth of an object, insert the metal rod that appears when you slide the caliper foot to touch the bottom of the piece. Observe the indicated measure in millimeters and voilĂ , absolute precision!

Tips
  • If you are a professional and need more precision I advise you to use a micrometer.
