How to send a letter to a judge

Some letters are more important than others, but few will be as important as a letter to a judge . Take the time to approach the topic appropriately. Also, when addressing a judge it is good that you do it knowing the most appropriate legal terminology to express each term.

You will need to:
  • Paper and envelopes
  • Seals
Steps to follow:

On the first line of the envelope write "Honorable [First and Last Name]." You can abbreviate "Honorable." Example: Hon. Juan López.

Write the second line and include the official title of the judge (for example: "Associate Judge" or "judge"), add a comma, then include the full name of the court. Example: President of the Supreme Court.

Use the remaining lines for the direction of the court or court.

Repeat the same complete address at the beginning of your letter, which should be in a standard format.

Use "Dear Judge [last name]", as a greeting.

Check the address carefully to avoid typographical errors so that it is delivered correctly.

If it is written by hand, make sure all letters are legible.

Take it to the post office when you are sure it has no errors.

  • Print and keep a copy of all the letters you write to a judge, or any other official.
