How to open a bank account in Spain while abroad

If for reasons of work, studies or, simply for being on vacation, a person who does not reside in Spain needs to open an account in a bank or cashier during your stay in our country you can do so with complete peace of mind.   • Submit your NIE to foreign residents
  • A non-residence certificate and your passport for non-resident foreigners

For the opening of bank accounts by foreigners, Spanish legislation distinguishes between resident foreigners (those who have a residence permit) and non-residents .

To perform this banking procedure, foreigners considered residents must present their NIE in the bank (foreign identity number) and meet the other requirements that each bank requires to open a bank account.

People considered non-residents need a non-residence certificate to open a bank account in Spain. The certificate is obtained by going to any National Police station.

This certificate can also be processed by the bank for us, but charges a commission for it. The other type of document needed by non-residents to open a bank account is a valid passport or identity document in their country of origin.
