How is the regulation of mopeds and motorcycles in Spain

The regulation of mopeds and motorcycles in Spain establishes several useful rules to know by the population. Among them, that only those over 15 years old will be able to drive mopeds, as approved by the Council of Ministers. In addition, there is a driver's license for motorcycles of average power . So if you are thinking of getting permission to drive mopeds or motorcycles of any power, it is important that you know that the Council of Ministers has approved a regulation on the matter. Here we show you the main novelties of this regulation.

Steps to follow:

one

The New General Rules of Conductors, approved on May 9, 2009 by the Council of Ministers, had the objective of bringing the Spanish regulations closer to those in force in the European Union in relation to the driving of mopeds and motorcycles. Among the main novelties of this regulation was the creation of a new driver's license specific for medium-power motorcycles and the establishment of a new age to drive a moped.

two

With the new regulation, the moped license (vehicles up to 50cc displacement) was renamed Driving Permit AM . The minimum age to get this permit is 15 years, unlike the old regulation, which set a minimum age of 14 years. In addition, moped drivers will not be authorized to transport passengers until they reach the age of 18, except those who have their permits removed before September 1, 2008. To be able to take out this driving license, applicants must pass a theoretical exam and a practical test in closed circuit.

3

Those who drive or intend to drive motorcycles up to 125cc require 16 years to be able to get the card (A1), being necessary to pass a theoretical test, a practical test in a closed circuit and another on public roads.

4

For medium power motorcycles -from 125cc to 500cc. -The permit, called A2, can be obtained directly if the applicant is 18 years old and passes the tests of knowledge and aptitude: a theoretical exam, a test in a closed circuit and another on the public highway. This permit can also be obtained gradually and progressively if the applicant already holds the type A1 license with two years of seniority and passes the relevant practical tests.

5

Permit A, for motorcycles over 500cc: the minimum age is set at 20 years and it will be necessary to have been in possession of the A2 card (as it is a newer card, the A1 will be taken into account for now), at least, two years, and pass a specific training test. Those applicants who are not in possession of the A1 card and want to aspire to take the A permit directly must overcome, in addition to this specific training test, a theoretical and practical test.

6

The periods of validity are: the driving licenses AM, A1, A2, A and B will have to be renewed every ten years until they reach 65, when they will have to be renewed every five years. As for professional permits (BTP, C1, C, D), they will be renewed every five years until they reach 65, and then every three years.
