How to change the antifreeze fluid of the car

Although we all know it as antifreeze, it is necessary to know that the name of this liquid is coolant, since its main function is to cool the engine . Likewise, it also works to avoid the freezing of this circuit before extreme temperatures, hence it is known as antifreeze. It is a key element in the engine of our vehicle, so you must know how to change the antifreeze fluid of the car and perform the correct maintenance.

Steps to follow:

one

First of all, it should be noted that there is no exact periodicity to replace the antifreeze fluid of your vehicle, but the need to do so, since it is losing its properties over time. In this way, the antifreeze is usually changed every 2 years or every 40, 000 km, thus ensuring its conservation in perfect condition.

two

Also, in the manual of your vehicle will appear the type of antifreeze liquid that you will have to use for the correct operation. You also have to take into account the temperature of the region where you live to choose the most suitable antifreeze :

  • antifreeze 10%: effective up to -5ºC.
  • 20% antifreeze: works correctly until -11ºC.
  • 30% antifreeze: for temperatures up to -18ºC.
  • 50% antifreeze: long-lasting antifreeze and suitable up to -37ºC.

The first thing that you must do to change the antifreeze of your car, will be to completely empty the refrigerant circuit to eliminate all the old liquid, which probably will have lost its properties. Always with the engine cold, you must open the cooling system - using a screw, tap or the mechanism that your car uses - and let it empty completely.

4

In the same way, we recommend that you wash it with water under pressure - with a hose for example - to clean the cooling system well, always keeping the drain screw removed so that the water can escape. If you have valves to purge, you should also use them.

5

Next, close the screw or drain plug and start filling the tank of your vehicle with antifreeze . You will find minimum and maximum marks that will indicate the values between which the antifreeze liquid should be.
