How to guide an architectural project

How to orient an architectural space . When projecting, the orientation of the building is essential. This will determine the climatic conditions to which the building will be exposed, considered the sun (product of apparent movement of the sun) and the inclemency of the winds that the project will face.

You will need to:
  • Site map where the project will be implemented
  • Climatic data of the region
Steps to follow:

one

As a first observation, you should recognize the north in the implementation of the project . This will indicate the sun's travel (east-west)

two

Then you must study the region in which you are going to project. In order to obtain all the necessary climatic data, principally the direction and the intensity of the winds.

3

Another fundamental point to take into account for a good orientation is the landscape and the views of the place, towards which you want to open or not.

4

Finally, you must recognize the preexistences of the place, both physical (topography, hydrography, vegetation) and the neighborhood that surrounds you, giving importance to privacy.

5

Once you have studied the surroundings and the region, taking into account the previous guidelines, you will decide how our building should be oriented.

6

Ex: If we are located in a region of Spain, or anywhere that is located in the northern hemisphere, we will know that the largest sun will be received from the south, and conversely the lowest amount of solar radiation will be found in the north orientation.

7

With this data we will know that the south orientation will favor the thermal conditions in winter and will achieve comfort in a natural way. On the other hand, in summer, it is possible that direct solar radiation affects comfort, creating an unwanted excess temperature in the room.
