How to conduct a telephone conversation

Telephone conversations, such as e-mail, text messages and instant messages, are not always easy and sometimes cause discomfort and confusion among participants. The participants in the conversation can not see the faces or body language that allows deciphering the intent of an ambiguous statement. It is easy to avoid these problems if good habits are developed for taking a telephone conversation.

Steps to follow:

one

Keep the phone's earpiece close to your mouth and remove any food or chewing gum from your mouth. This will ensure that the person at the other end will hear clearly. The conversation can not even begin if the person called can not hear or understand what you say.

two

You must give the person on the other line your attention. Avoid reading emails, books, text messages while you are in the conversation. The person at the other end of the line will be able to discern your lack of attention through your short answers, with a disinterested tone. If you have a call on hold, do not interrupt the conversation to answer other calls. Some people consider this a serious violation of the label. If you wait for an important call, explain to the other person at the beginning of the conversation that you may have to cut the call shortly.

3

Smile while you talk . The warmth of your smile will be transmitted through your voice, to the person at the other end.

4

Ask the person at the other end of the line questions when there is a pause in the conversation. These questions may be about a common interest, about something the person has said before in the telephone conversation, or about a news item that is relevant to their life.

5

Recognize that you are listening to the other person by agreeing or disagreeing with them as they talk. Just say "yes" to a statement to show that you are listening and you understand what you are saying. Saying: "Well ..." or "No" opens the conversation to a new debate.

6

Tell the person at the other end of the line something interesting that you have done or seen recently, or interesting plans you have made. The key is to talk about things that are relevant to your life and interesting to others.
