How to calculate time in tenths

By filling in a part of your work hours, you can find that your company requires that all work hours be marked in tenths of an hour. This means that, for example, you should write "8.8" instead of 8 3/4 hours. Calculating time in tenths is quite simple and can be easily memorized if necessary. When you convert to tenths, what you are basically doing is counting the number of minutes after the hour and converting it into a decimal point. See the following article to see how to calculate time in tenths.

Steps to follow:

one

The first thing you have to do to calculate time in tenths is calculate the exact number of hours and minutes worked on your turn. For example, 8 hours and 20 minutes.

two

Convert the number of minutes to decimal . The conversions are the following:

  • 1 to 6 minutes becomes 0.1 /
  • 7 to 12 minutes becomes 0.2 /
  • 13 to 18 becomes 0.3 /
  • 19 to 24 becomes 0.4 /
  • 25 to 30 becomes 0.5 /
  • 31 to 36 becomes 0.6 /
  • 37 to 42 becomes 0.7 /
  • 43 to 48 becomes 0.8 /
  • 49 to 54 and it becomes 0.9 /
  • 55 to 59 minutes will be rounded to the next hour, reaching 0.0.

3

Write the hours with decimals of work hours. Our example becomes "8.4" because 20 minutes falls on the ", 4" portion of the hour. An 8-hour, 56-minute round is rounded to 9 hours and written as "9.0."
